Why bike size matters more than the bike

A wrong-sized bike is the #1 reason Kenyan riders stop cycling within 6 months. A frame that is 20 mm too tall causes lower back pain; one 20 mm too short kills your climbing power. We size around 400 riders a year at our Dar es Salaam Road flagship, and roughly one in three walk in on the wrong size from a previous shop.

This calculator gives you the closest Giant frame size in our lineup. It is a starting point — the final fit at the shop takes 15 minutes and adjusts saddle height, saddle setback, stem length and cleat position. It is free with every Giant purchase, and KES 1,500 for bikes bought elsewhere.

How the calculator works

We use two inputs — height and inseam — and cross-reference them against the Giant frame geometry chart shared by Giant Global. Height sets the base size band; inseam refines it. If your inseam is short for your height (long torso, short legs), we drop one size to keep standover safe. If your inseam is long (short torso, long legs), we keep the base size but recommend a shorter stem at fit.

Your riding style then narrows the Giant model line: Talon and Trance for hardtail and trail MTB, Anthem for cross-country, Contend and Defy for endurance road, TCR for race road, Revolt for gravel, FastRoad E+ for e-bike commuting, and the ARX and STP series for kids.

What the fit includes at Dar es Salaam Road

Static measurement (height, inseam, torso, arm), saddle height set to the LeMond method, saddle setback via plumb-line, stem length check, cleat set by knee tracking, and a 10-minute stationary ride on our trainer while a mechanic watches your knees, hips and shoulders. Every rider leaves with a small card showing the exact settings so we can replicate them if any component is replaced later.
