Maxwell Mukaria Mwenda — Founder & CEO, Cycle Africa Bikes
Maxwell Mukaria Mwenda is the founder and CEO of Cycle Africa Bikes Limited, Nairobi’s premium bicycle retailer. Since 2019 he has built Cycle Africa Bikes from a single-store bike workshop into Kenya’s most-reviewed premium cycling brand, with 337 verified five-star Google reviews, ten staff, two showrooms, and approximately KES 60 million in annual turnover.
The story
Maxwell started Cycle Africa Bikes as a small bike technician operation in Nairobi’s CBD. Over six years he has scaled the business into East Africa’s leading Giant bicycles dealer, opening a flagship showroom on Dar es Salaam Road, a dedicated Giant showroom at the Dar es Salaam Road flagship, and a second store at Junction Trade Centre. Growth came through direct China factory sourcing, an early bet on premium brands (Giant, SAVA, CAMP, Cruztrek, NOOYAH, TWITTER), and a customer-experience-first approach that closes 80% of sales through WhatsApp rather than in-store walk-ins.
Cycle Africa Bikes is now the partner-of-choice for Nairobi’s high-end cyclists, weekend ride communities, corporate wellness programmes (KCB, Army, several churches), and bike financing partnerships (Faraja, M-KOPA, LOOP FLEX).
