Looking for cycling tours in Kenya from someone who actually rides these trails every week? You are on the right page. This is Cycle Africa Bikes’ 2026 tour menu — eight real itineraries from a KES 2,500 Karura-to-CBD corporate ride up to a KES 40,000 multi-day cycling safari in the Maasai Mara. Every tour on this page has a fixed route, a specific bike, a fitness level, a season, and a price in Kenya Shillings. No fluff.
We are a bike shop first — East Africa’s leading Giant bicycles dealer, with flagship stores on Dar es Salaam Road, Nairobi and a dedicated Giant showroom at the Dar es Salaam Road flagship. We run tours because our own workshop mechanics and staff cyclists were riding these routes on weekends anyway. That means when you book with us, the bike you ride is a new Giant, SAVA or CAMP off our own shop floor, not a tired rental fleet leftover. That is the difference between us and every other operator on Google.
Book any tour on WhatsApp +254 725 511 513 or call +254 725 511513. Below: our eight signature tours in detail, rental prices by bike, corporate packages, rider testimonials, and everything else you need to book with confidence.

Why book cycling tours in Kenya with Cycle Africa Bikes
Four practical reasons visitors and Nairobi residents pick us over generic tour operators:
- We are the bike shop. The Giant Talon 3 hardtail you ride on our Karura tour is the same bike we sell for KES 89,000 new — not a beat-up 2018 rental. Every bike is workshop-checked the morning of your ride by mechanics who also fit bikes for Kenyan Olympic-track riders and Ironman finishers.
- Our guides ride these routes every weekend. Not gig guides reading from a script. Cliff, Brian and the rest of our tour team train on Ngong, race gravel at Naivasha, and know which Karura gate is easiest to leave from on a Saturday.
- 337 verified 5-star Google reviews. Read them before you book. We are not perfect — but the pattern is clear: bikes work, guides show up, prices match what we quote.
- Book by WhatsApp, pay by M-Pesa. No booking platform, no processing fee, no email chains. WhatsApp us, we hold your slot on a 50% deposit to Paybill 522533 account 7538565. Balance on the day.
We are also flexible on financing. Regular Kenyan riders who want to buy a Giant, SAVA or CAMP after falling in love on a tour can spread it over 6–12 months through Faraja, M-KOPA or LOOP FLEX. Ask at the shop after the ride.
1. Karura Forest Half Day Cycling Tour — KES 3,500 per person
The Karura Forest bike tour is Nairobi’s easiest win — and the cycling tour we run more than any other on this menu. Karura is 1,000 hectares of indigenous forest five minutes from Westlands, with 50+ km of groomed red-dirt trails, a waterfall, Mau Mau caves and a bamboo grove that would not look out of place in Arashiyama. It is the reserve Wangari Maathai and Karura Community Forest Association saved from grabbers in the 2000s — cycling here is a small daily thank-you to that fight.
Route (GPS): Start Limuru Road main gate (-1.238, 36.822), out to the waterfall (-1.229, 36.834), Mau Mau caves loop, bamboo grove, River Café, return via the eastern ridge track.
Numbers: 20 km · elevation gain 140 m · ~500–650 kcal burned · 3 hours ride time · all levels (over 12s).
What is included: Giant Talon 3 hardtail (or SAVA equivalent) sized to you · certified guide · helmet · Karura forest entry fee (KES 300 residents / 1,200 non-residents) · 1.5 L water · energy bar and fruit · basic repair kit and spare tube.
What to bring: closed athletic shoes · shorts or leggings · a moisture-wicking tee · sunscreen SPF 30+ · sunglasses · KES 500 for optional River Café coffee.
Fitness level: Easy. If you can ride a bike for one hour on flat ground, you will finish. We have run this with 62-year-olds and 12-year-olds in the same group.
Season / weather: Year-round. Avoid heavy rain days in April and May — trails drain fast but the descent to the waterfall gets slippery. Best months: June, July, August, January, February.
Bike we provide: Giant Talon 3 — hardtail, 100 mm suspension fork with lockout, 29″ wheels, hydraulic disc brakes, 1x drivetrain. Sized S/M/L/XL. KES 89,000 new in our shop.
Karura runs daily on demand and on a fixed 7:30 AM Saturday slot from our Dar es Salaam Road flagship — we shuttle gear to the Limuru gate for you. Family package (2 adults + 2 kids 12+) is KES 12,000 all-in.
2. Ngong Hills Full Day Cycling Tour — KES 6,500 per person
The Ngong Hills cycling tour is where Nairobi riders go to actually get fit. Seven peaks stretch to 2,460 m, with a rutted dirt ridge road that gives you Rift Valley on one side and Nairobi National Park on the other. It is the ride Karen Blixen watched from her farmhouse — and the reason serious Kenyan cyclists live in Ngong itself.
Route (GPS): Start Ngong Town matatu stage (-1.362, 36.660), climb the windmill service road, trace the ridge past all seven peaks, descend via Kibiku Forest track, finish at Ololua Nature Trail carpark (-1.377, 36.687).
Numbers: 45 km · elevation gain 900 m · ~1,800–2,200 kcal burned · 6 hours (with lunch break) · intermediate to advanced.
What is included: Giant Talon 3 or Giant Trance dual-suspension · certified guide · helmet · Ngong Hills Forest Reserve entry · 2.5 L water · packed lunch (chapati, chicken, fruit) · basic first-aid · sag support vehicle for the group.
What to bring: cycling shoes or trainers · padded shorts strongly recommended · lightweight rain shell (weather flips at 2,400 m) · sunscreen · buff or cap under helmet · KES 1,000 spending money.
Fitness level: Intermediate. You should be able to ride for 3 hours with 400 m of climbing without stopping. If your last ride was over a year ago, do Karura first.
Season / weather: July to October is the golden window — dry, cool, clear views to Kilimanjaro on rare days. Avoid April, May and November — ridge road turns to a mud bath.
Bike we provide: Giant Trance X 29 2 — 135 mm dual suspension, dropper post, Maxxis Minion tyres. The descent off the ridge earns the extra travel. Hardtails available for lighter riders.
3. Hells Gate National Park Cycling Tour — KES 12,500 per person
The Hells Gate cycling tour is the ride most international visitors book — and the one that goes viral in group WhatsApps once people get home. Hells Gate is one of the very few national parks in Africa where you cycle without a ranger vehicle, sharing gravel road with zebra, giraffe, eland, warthog and buffalo (at distance). The Lower Gorge inspired The Lion King‘s Pride Rock. The KenGen geothermal steam plumes look like a Bond villain’s lair. It is the perfect one-day cycling-and-wildlife combination in Kenya.
Route (GPS): 6:30 AM Nairobi pickup → 1.5 hr drive to Elsa Gate (-0.878, 36.313) → cycle to Fischer’s Tower → Central Tower → Lower Gorge trailhead (-0.918, 36.323) → guided walk down the gorge → cycle back to Elsa Gate → Naivasha lakeside lunch → Nairobi by 6 PM.
Numbers: 30 km cycling inside the park · elevation gain 220 m · ~1,200–1,600 kcal burned · 5 hours saddle time (full day 10 hr with transport) · all levels — pace is easy but altitude 1,900 m bites.
What is included: return transport from Nairobi (Dar es Salaam Road or your CBD hotel) in air-conditioned van · Giant Trance or Talon 3 · certified guide · helmet · gorge walk with local Maasai gorge guide · KWS park entry fees (KES 300 residents / USD 26 non-residents — bundled at cost) · Naivasha lakeside lunch · 3 L water per rider.
What to bring: shorts, closed shoes, wide-brim hat or buff, sunglasses, SPF 50 (equatorial sun at 1,900 m is fierce), swim gear if you want a Lake Naivasha dip after lunch.
Fitness level: All levels. Terrain is flat gravel. Real challenge is heat and altitude, not effort. We carry the sag vehicle for anyone who wants a break.
Season / weather: Year-round but avoid heavy rain — Lower Gorge floods fast and rangers close it. June to October and January to March are the reliable windows.
Bike we provide: Giant Trance for taller riders and rocky sections, Giant Talon 3 for shorter or more relaxed riders. Both hardtails and full-suspension have hydraulic brakes and 2.35″+ tyres for gravel comfort.
Book: Requires 48 hr advance and 50% deposit. WhatsApp Hells Gate booking →
4. Naivasha Gravel Weekend — KES 25,000 per person (2 days)
The Naivasha Gravel Weekend is our answer to the “one perfect Kenya cycling weekend” question. Two days riding the north shore of Lake Naivasha, one overnight in a lakeside lodge, flamingo colonies at dawn, gravel roads through acacia bushland, and hippo grunting off your tent flap at night. It is the tour our own staff take their partners on.
Route (GPS): Day 1: transport Nairobi to Elsamere Conservation Centre (-0.783, 36.362), 40 km ride along lake south shore to Crescent Island viewpoint, overnight at Elsamere or Crayfish Camp. Day 2: 40 km north shore loop via Hell’s Gate perimeter and back to lodge, transport to Nairobi by 5 PM.
Numbers: 80 km total over 2 days · elevation gain 500 m combined · ~4,000 kcal burned across the weekend · intermediate.
What is included: return transport Nairobi–Naivasha · 1 night lakeside lodge accommodation (twin share, single supplement KES 4,500) · full board (breakfast, packed lunch, dinner both days) · Giant Talon 3 hardtail · certified guide riding with you · sag support vehicle · park entry fees · sundowner drinks night one.
What to bring: two riding kits (day 1 will be dusty), swim gear, headlamp, warm layer for evenings (Naivasha nights hit 8°C), personal medication.
Fitness level: Intermediate. Distances are moderate but consecutive days need base fitness. If Karura felt easy, this is your next step up.
Season / weather: July through October best. Avoid April–May (long rains — gravel becomes clay). November short rains often fine, but check.
Bike we provide: Giant Talon 3 hardtail with 2.4″ tyres for the gravel. Serious gravel riders can request a CAMP Gravel from our shop for supplement KES 2,000.
Book: Min 2 riders, max 8. WhatsApp Naivasha Weekend →
5. Mount Kenya Foothills Cycling Tour — KES 18,000 per person
The Mount Kenya foothills tour is for riders who want the “I cycled Mount Kenya” bragging rights without committing to a summit expedition. We ride the western slopes around Nanyuki and Timau — mixed gravel and quiet tarmac at 2,000–2,600 m altitude, dramatic close-up views of Batian and Nelion, wheat farms, dairy country, and if you are lucky, elephant tracks across the road (elephant do use these corridors; our guides carry an air horn as a last resort).
Route (GPS): 5:00 AM Nairobi departure → 3 hr drive to Nanyuki (0.005, 37.076) → 30 km climb Timau road to Sirimon Gate turnoff (0.076, 37.253) → coffee at Trout Tree → 30 km descent via Sweetwaters → transport back to Nairobi by 8 PM.
Numbers: 60 km · elevation gain 700 m · ~2,500–3,000 kcal burned · 8 hours (including transfers) · advanced.
What is included: return transport Nairobi–Nanyuki · Giant Trance dual-suspension · certified guide · helmet · 3 L water · packed lunch at Trout Tree · sag vehicle following the group · standard rider insurance for the day.
What to bring: arm and knee warmers (2,600 m morning is 6°C, midday 24°C), padded shorts mandatory, cycling gloves, KES 500 for coffee.
Fitness level: Advanced. You will climb steadily for 3 hours at altitude. Recent regular rides of 40 km+ required.
Season / weather: January–March and July–September. Avoid April–May and November. Mount Kenya makes its own weather — always pack a rain shell.
Bike we provide: Giant Trance X 29 or Giant Talon 3 for lighter riders. Tarmac sections benefit from lower tyre pressure. Road-focused riders can request a Giant Contend AR endurance road bike (supplement KES 3,000).
Book: Min 3 riders. WhatsApp Mount Kenya booking →
6. Aberdares Rim Ride — KES 22,000 per person
The Aberdares Rim Ride is the toughest ride on this menu — and the one that sends riders home with the best photos. The Aberdare range rises to 4,000 m; our route hugs the eastern rim at 2,500–3,000 m, through moorland, past Karuru and Gura Waterfalls viewpoints, with the Kenyan highlands falling away for hundreds of kilometres to the east. Colobus monkeys, bushbuck, and occasionally a lone bull elephant crossing the moorland tracks.
Route (GPS): 5:00 AM Nairobi departure → 3 hr drive to Mutubio Gate (-0.481, 36.688) → climb to rim road at 3,100 m → 30 km rim traverse with waterfall stops → descent to Njabini exit (-0.734, 36.605) → transport back to Nairobi by 8 PM.
Numbers: 55 km · elevation gain 1,100 m · ~3,000–3,500 kcal burned · 7 hours ride · advanced.
What is included: return transport Nairobi–Aberdares · KWS park entry (bundled at cost) · KWS armed ranger escort (mandatory — elephant and buffalo territory) · Giant Trance dual-suspension · certified guide · helmet · 3 L water · packed lunch · sag vehicle.
What to bring: full winter cycling kit (moorland temperatures 2–8°C morning, 15°C max midday), waterproof shell mandatory, buff, full-finger gloves, thermal base layer.
Fitness level: Advanced. Altitude 3,000+ m plus 1,100 m of climbing is a real day. Do the Ngong Hills tour first if you have not ridden Ngong at least three times.
Season / weather: January–February and July–August only. Highland weather is closed most other months.
Bike we provide: Giant Trance dual-suspension. Nothing else survives the rim road surface comfortably.
Book: Min 4 riders (KWS ranger cost). WhatsApp Aberdares booking →
7. Karura → CBD Corporate Commuter Tour — KES 2,500 per person
The Karura to CBD commuter tour is the cheapest, easiest, most-repeated tour we run — because Nairobi corporates keep re-booking it for wellness days, team retreats and onboarding weeks. Short, urban, safe, and gets people who “have not cycled since primary school” back on a bike inside two hours.
Route (GPS): Meet Karura Limuru Road gate (-1.238, 36.822) at 9:00 AM. Loop the Karura family trail (5 km, warm-up). Exit via UN Avenue, descend to Muthaiga via Limuru Road, cut through Parklands to City Park, finish at Norfolk Hotel (-1.279, 36.821) for chai. Van returns bikes to shop, team is at their desks by lunch.
Numbers: 15 km · elevation gain 100 m (net descent) · ~350 kcal burned · 2 hours saddle · beginners.
What is included: Giant Talon 3 or SAVA hardtail sized to each rider · helmet · certified guide + tail cyclist for group (mandatory for 8+) · Karura forest entry · water · energy bar · chai and mandazi at Norfolk finish.
What to bring: A change of work clothes (we have a shop shower on Dar es Salaam Road if needed) · closed shoes.
Fitness level: Beginner. If you can walk for 20 minutes you can do this.
Season / weather: Year-round. Rain days switch to the internal Karura loop only.
Bike we provide: Giant Talon 3 or SAVA DECK hardtail. Nothing fancier needed.
Book: Min 8 riders, max 30. WhatsApp corporate booking →
8. Custom Multi-Day Safari Cycling Tour — from KES 40,000 per person
The multi-day cycling safari is the flagship trip on this page — bespoke rides of 3 to 7 days in the Maasai Mara, Amboseli or Samburu, combining wildlife safari with real cycling distances on gravel and community-conservancy access roads. We build these one at a time with lodge partners (Basecamp Explorer, Elephant Bedroom, Saruni). Every trip has an armed KWS ranger, a support 4WD, and lodges we have personally slept in.
Sample 4-day Mara route: Day 1 fly Nairobi–Mara, cycle 20 km Ol Kinyei Conservancy sunset ride, camp. Day 2: 45 km cycle Ol Kinyei to Naboisho Conservancy, game drive interval, lodge night. Day 3: 40 km rim of Mara Triangle, hot air balloon breakfast option. Day 4: morning ride, transfer flight home.
Numbers: 120–250 km over 3–7 days · elevation varies · advanced fitness but 4WD sag means nobody gets left behind.
What is included: internal flights or road transfer · conservancy fees · lodge full-board · Giant Talon or Trance bike · certified guide · KWS armed ranger · 4WD support vehicle · game drives interspersed · comprehensive insurance.
What to bring: soft duffel (30 kg limit for internal flights), full cycling kit x 3, safari camera, all your usual safari kit — lodge laundry available.
Fitness level: Advanced. Comfortable on 40–50 km gravel days back to back.
Season / weather: Mara July–October (migration) or January–March. Amboseli year-round except long rains. Samburu June–October.
Bike we provide: Giant Talon 3 or Giant Trance X, matched to route. Bikes are flown in with the group; spares kit travels.
Book: 8 weeks lead time. Email [email protected] or WhatsApp +254 725 511 513.

What riders say — recent verified testimonials
“Did the Karura Half Day with my sister in March. Brian our guide waited every time I lagged and took the best photo I have of us together in years. The Giant Talon was smoother than my own bike at home. Booked Ngong Hills for July already.”
“Hells Gate was the highlight of a 2-week Kenya trip. Watching a giraffe cross the trail in front of you at cycling pace is a different feeling from a Land Cruiser window. The van pickup at 6:30 was on time, lunch at Naivasha was excellent, everyone home in Nairobi by 6.”
“Our KCB Sarit branch did the corporate commuter tour for our team wellness week. 22 people, half of them had not cycled in a decade. Cliff and team had all bikes fitted in 15 minutes and got everyone from Karura to Norfolk without a scratch. Invoice arrived the same afternoon. Booking Naivasha for the leadership team next.”
“Aberdares rim ride is the hardest thing I have done on a bike. Guide Brian paced me perfectly, the KWS ranger was calm and professional, and the moorland at 3,000 m is a place every Kenyan cyclist should ride at least once. The Giant Trance was the right bike for the surface.”
All testimonials above are from riders who published them on our Google Business Profile (337 verified 5-star reviews as of July 2026), Facebook or in a direct WhatsApp we asked permission to quote from. Read every Google review at our Google Business Profile.
How our cycling tours compare to other Kenya operators
You will find other cycling tour options on Google — some good, some marketing decks. Two honest comparisons:
- Dedicated multi-day operators (like africacycling.com) are excellent for 7–14 day cross-country expeditions. If that is what you want, book them. For single-day, weekend and corporate tours based out of Nairobi with fresh Giant bikes and easier logistics, we are the shorter, cheaper, more flexible option.
- Hotel concierge rental fleets at Serena, Fairmont and Villa Rosa often have older bikes and generic guides. Our Karura tour is KES 3,500 with a new Giant Talon; a hotel concierge Karura ride is typically KES 5,500 on a bike that has done 300 rentals. We are cheaper because we own the bikes.
The reviews on TripAdvisor and Google will show you the same pattern. Our positioning: East Africa’s leading Giant bicycles dealer running the tours our own staff want to do, on the bikes we sell. Not a tour operator borrowing rental bikes.
Cycling in Kenya — a rider’s practical guide before you book
A few practical notes we wish every visitor and new Nairobi rider knew before their first cycling tour in Kenya. Skimmable, ordered by how often we get asked:
- Altitude is real. Nairobi sits at 1,795 m. Ngong ridge at 2,460 m. Aberdares rim at 3,000 m+. Sea-level visitors typically feel it in the first hour of any climb. Ride the first 30 minutes 30 percent easier than usual and drink 750 ml water per hour.
- Equatorial UV is brutal even when cool. Overcast morning at 2,500 m still burns unprotected skin in 20 minutes. SPF 50, long sleeves for anything over 3 hours, wide brim under helmet.
- Nairobi tarmac roads are not for cycling. Mombasa Road, Thika Road, Waiyaki Way, Ngong Road — do not ride on them. Every tour on this page keeps you off busy tarmac. If you are exploring solo on a rental, we will send a WhatsApp map of safer routes.
- Buy the tube. Kenya thorns (acacia, whistling thorn near Naivasha) puncture tyres more than you expect. Our tours include repair kit and spare tube; if you rent solo, buy a spare Continental tube from us for KES 750.
- M-Pesa is currency. Every guide, ranger, lodge and vendor takes M-Pesa. Have Safaricom or Airtel Money on your phone. As a tourist you can get a Kenyan SIM at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in 20 minutes with a passport.
- Book Hells Gate 48 hours ahead. KWS ranger walk slots and vehicle bookings need lead time. Same-day Hells Gate is almost never possible.
- Weekend Rides Club. If you are living in Nairobi and want a regular community, ask us about the Cycle Africa Weekend Rides Club — free social rides most Saturdays out of the Dar es Salaam Road flagship.

Frequently asked questions — cycling tours Kenya
What is the best cycling tour in Kenya for first-time riders?
Karura Forest Half Day at KES 3,500. It is 20 km on packed red dirt with no traffic, altitude gain under 150 m, and the trail is signposted. We put you on a Giant Talon 3 hardtail with lockout suspension, a helmet, water and snacks. First-timers finish smiling. If you have never cycled as an adult, do this ride before you consider Ngong or Hells Gate.
How much do cycling tours in Kenya cost in 2026?
Our 2026 menu runs from KES 2,500 for a 15 km corporate commuter tour to KES 40,000 per person for a multi-day cycling safari in the Maasai Mara. The sweet spot for a first weekend is the Karura Half Day at KES 3,500 or the Ngong Hills Full Day at KES 6,500. All prices include bike, helmet, guide and park entry unless otherwise noted.
Can I book a cycling tour in Kenya on WhatsApp?
Yes. WhatsApp +254 725 511 513 or +254 725 511513 with your date, group size and rough fitness. We reply inside an hour during business hours and hold the slot on a 50 percent M-Pesa deposit (Paybill 522533, account 7538565). Same-day bookings are possible for Karura and the Commuter tour if we have bikes free.
Which bike do you provide on cycling tours in Kenya?
Depends on the ride. Karura, Commuter and Naivasha weekend get a Giant Talon 3 hardtail. Ngong, Hells Gate and Mount Kenya foothills get a Giant Trance dual-suspension for the descents. Aberdares gets a Giant Talon or CAMP hardtail with 2.4 in tyres for the loose gravel. Road-tarmac sections on custom tours use a Giant Contend endurance road bike. Every bike is workshop-checked the morning of the tour.
Are cycling tours in Kenya safe with wildlife?
On Hells Gate and Naivasha the parks have no lions, elephants or rhinos. You share the trail with zebra, giraffe, warthog and various antelope. Our guides ride these routes weekly, keep group spacing tight and know the safe distances. In four years running Hells Gate we have logged zero wildlife incidents. For Mara and Amboseli safari cycling we ride with an armed KWS ranger and a support vehicle at all times.
When is the best season for cycling tours in Kenya?
June through October and January through March are the dry, cool windows we recommend for every route. Avoid April through early June (long rains — Karura mud, Ngong impassable, Hells Gate flash-flood risk in the gorge). November short rains are usually rideable but check with us the morning of. Highland routes (Mount Kenya foothills, Aberdares) start at 5°C pre-dawn — bring layers year-round.
Do you run corporate wellness cycling packages in Kenya?
Yes. We have run cycling wellness days for KCB Bank, UN Habitat, Safaricom Foundation, Kenya Army welfare and several Nairobi churches. Standard corporate day: bikes shuttled to your office park, safety brief, 15 to 25 km ride, chai break, group photo. From KES 2,500 per rider for 15+ people. Invoice, KRA-compliant. Email [email protected] or WhatsApp +254 725 511 513.
Can I combine a cycling tour with bike rental for extra days?
Yes and most visitors do. A common package is Karura tour on day one, then a KES 2,500 daily rental for a solo ride around Nairobi on day two. Bundle price for a 3-day tour-plus-rental combo starts at KES 8,500. We hold ID or a KES 15,000 refundable deposit during rental.
Do you offer cycling tours for kids and families?
Yes. Karura, Corporate Commuter and Naivasha weekend all accept kids from 12 upwards. We have 20″, 24″ and 26″ wheel kids’ bikes with helmets. Family package (2 adults + 2 kids) is KES 12,000 for the Karura Half Day. Kids under 12 join family rentals in Karura Forest rather than guided tours.
What happens if it rains on my Kenya cycling tour?
Karura and Corporate Commuter run in light rain — trails drain fast. Ngong, Hells Gate, Naivasha, Mount Kenya and Aberdares get proactively rescheduled if the morning shows heavy rain, at no charge. You can also swap to Karura or take a full refund. We do not run tours we would not personally ride.
Do you offer bike financing after a tour?
Yes. If you love the bike you rode on tour, we sell it new from our Dar es Salaam Road showroom with financing through Faraja (6 months), M-KOPA (up to 12 months) and LOOP FLEX (buy now pay later). Bring the tour receipt for a KES 3,000 credit toward the purchase.
