The category winner: Advanced Pro 29 2

If you race Sagana, Kereita, or the Karura XC series and you want a carbon Anthem without spending a million shillings, this is the bike. XT 1×12 is the workhorse of serious XC in Kenya because parts are available, the shifting is crisp under load, and DT Swiss XR 1700 wheels handle rocky descents at Kilimambogo without going out of true. At 585,000 KES, it is the best-value carbon XC full-suspension we sell.

The podium hunter: Advanced Pro 29 1

Fox Factory Kashima suspension and XTR shifting are noticeably lighter and smoother than the 2. If you are racing for prize money or a UCI licence, the extra 200,000 KES buys you roughly 400 grams saved and suspension that recovers faster in high-frequency chatter. This is the bike for the rider who finished top 10 last season and wants top 3 this season.

The no-compromise weapon: Advanced Pro 29 0

Cadex carbon wheels, XTR Di2 electronic shifting, and the lightest Anthem Giant builds. At 1,150,000 KES it is a serious commitment, and honestly, most Kenyan XC courses do not demand this level of kit. Buy it if you race abroad, if you are chasing a national title, or if you simply want the best. Special-order only.

The custom-build purist: Advanced SL Frameset

The Advanced SL frame is a step above Advanced Pro carbon: World Cup layup, lighter, stiffer around the bottom bracket. Buy the frameset at 645,000 KES and build it with your existing SRAM AXS, Shimano XTR, or a lightweight GX Eagle groupset. Ideal for riders who already own high-end wheels and want a frame upgrade only.

The marathon and long-course specialist: Anthem X Advanced SL 3

120mm of travel instead of 110mm makes the X version noticeably more comfortable on long, rough marathons like Sagana. GX Eagle 1×12 is proven and affordable to maintain. If you ride 80km+ events on mixed terrain, the X is friendlier than the pure race Anthems.

Honest verdict: for a rider on a budget under 400,000 KES, the SAVA and TWITTER full-suspensions are genuinely rideable and win group rides. The CAMP SR is a smart middle-ground with more travel for rougher trails. But if you race, if you count grams, if you want FlexPoint Pro pedalling efficiency and a real dealer warranty, the Anthem is worth the premium. The frame alone justifies the price gap.

Sagana MTB Marathon

Sagana is where the Anthem was built to win. Rolling singletrack, punchy climbs, and long fire-road sections reward the FlexPoint Pro platform. Riders on Anthems consistently finish top 20 in the elite category. Recommended tyre: Maxxis Rekon Race 2.4 front, Aspen 2.25 rear.

Karura race circuit

The Karura XC series runs the tight loop near the waterfall. This is where the Anthem’s steep 68-degree head angle pays off: sharp corners, quick accelerations out of switchbacks, and short climbs where standing power matters. A hardtail feels faster here at first, but the Anthem holds speed better in the rocky bottom section.

Ngong XC loops

Ngong Road Forest and the trails behind the racecourse are perfect Anthem terrain: 30 to 60 minute loops, dry hardpack, some rocky descents. Most of our Karen customers train here weekday evenings.

Iten altitude camps

Several Kenyan XC racers now do 2-week altitude blocks in Iten before major races. The Anthem’s efficient rear suspension means you can log 3 to 4 hour tempo rides without your legs being cooked by pedal bob.

Kajiado and Kilimambogo

Rougher, rockier, more aggressive terrain. The Anthem X (120mm) or a well-set-up Advanced Pro handles these fine, but if you spend more time here than at races, consider the Trance instead.

Is the Giant Anthem worth it over a hardtail in Kenya?

For pure XC racing on smooth courses like tight Karura loops, a good carbon hardtail is often faster. But for Sagana marathon, Kilimambogo, and any course with sustained rocky descents, the Anthem is faster because you carry more speed and your legs stay fresher. If you race more than one discipline, the Anthem wins overall.

What is the difference between Anthem Advanced Pro and Advanced SL?

Advanced SL uses a lighter, stiffer carbon layup developed for Giant Factory Off-Road Team World Cup racing. It saves roughly 200 to 300 grams on the frame versus Advanced Pro and has slightly refined FlexPoint Pro tuning. For most Kenyan riders, Advanced Pro delivers 95% of the performance at a much lower price.

Can I get the Anthem in a size Small for shorter riders?

Yes. The Anthem is available in XS, S, M, L, and XL. XS fits riders from about 155cm. We recommend visiting Dar es Salaam Road for a proper fit before you commit. Sizing on race bikes matters more than on trail bikes because you spend more time in one position.

How does the Anthem compare to the Giant Trance?

The Trance is a trail bike with 140mm of travel, slacker geometry, and more forgiving handling. The Anthem is a race bike: shorter travel, steeper angles, lighter build. If you race, buy the Anthem. If you ride trails for fun and want more capability on descents, buy the Trance. They solve different problems.

Do you service Fox Factory suspension in Nairobi?
