It is the bike you buy when your hardtail has beaten you up one too many times on Kijabe’s rock gardens, when Ngong’s descents leave your wrists numb, or when a Kereita all-dayer ends with you walking sections you know you should be riding. With 135mm of Maestro-linkage rear travel and a 140mm to 150mm fork depending on variant, the Trance is a proper full-suspension trail bike built for the terrain we actually have in Kenya, not marketing brochures.

A note on the Advanced Pro: it is a pre-order bike because we do not sit on carbon Trances waiting for someone to walk in. The 21-day lead time is honest, includes shipping from the Giant factory allocation, and comes with a signed order agreement and receipt. Do not accept guesses on carbon lead times from anyone.
What each Trance variant is best for
The rider stepping up from a hardtail: Trance 29 3
If you have been riding a Talon 3 or a similar hardtail around Karura and you now want to ride Kereita’s technical descents without your fillings rattling loose, the Trance 29 3 at KES 245,000 is the bike. Deore 1×11 is not the sexiest drivetrain in the world but it works, it lasts, and every spare part is available in Nairobi. The 140mm Fox Rhythm-equivalent fork and 135mm Maestro rear end will absorb everything Kijabe throws at you. This is our best-selling Trance for a reason.
The rider who wants one Trance for the next five years: Trance 29 2
SLX 1×12 gives you a wider gear range for Kajiado climbs, the 4-piston brakes stop you on long Ngong descents where the Trance 3’s 2-piston Tektros start to fade, and the Fox Rhythm 34 has proper compression damping. At KES 315,000 this is the value pick of the whole lineup. We have one unit right now on Dar es Salaam Road; when it goes, the next allocation is around six weeks out.
The rider who mostly points downhill: Trance X 29 3 or X 29 2
The Trance X is not just a Trance with more travel. The geometry is slacker, the reach is longer, and it wants to be ridden fast on steep terrain. If your weekends are Kijabe descents, Kereita’s steep singletrack, or Naivasha’s Hell’s Gate escarpment lines, the Trance X 29 3 at KES 285,000 is more bike for the money than the standard Trance 2. The Trance X 29 2 at KES 375,000 with the Fox 36 and TRP DH-R EVO brakes is genuinely enduro-race capable.
The rider chasing every last gram: Trance Advanced Pro 29 1
KES 585,000 is real money and the Advanced Pro earns it. Carbon front triangle drops around 400 grams off the Trance 2, Fox Factory suspension is the best trail suspension money buys, and XT shifting is crisper than SLX. Buy this if you already know exactly why you want it. If you are asking whether it is worth it, the Trance 29 2 is your bike.

Kenya’s full-suspension market is smaller than the hardtail market but it is not empty. Here is how the Trance stacks up against what people actually cross-shop it against.

Honest verdict: if your riding is 80% smooth trail and light singletrack, the SAVA or TWITTER carbon full-suspension bikes are genuinely good value and we sell plenty of them. If you actually ride Kijabe, Kereita’s technical lines, or Ngong’s steeper descents, the Maestro linkage on the Trance keeps working when cheaper four-bar linkages start bobbing and blowing through their travel. The CAMP SR is the closest direct competitor at a lower price and we recommend it to riders on a tight budget who still want proper trail geometry.
Real-world Kenya use
Ngong Hills descents
The classic Nairobi trail test. Ngong’s descents are fast, loose over hardpack, and long enough that brake fade is real. On the Trance 29 3 with Tektro 2-piston brakes you will want to feather; on the Trance 29 2 or Trance X 29 2 with 4-piston stoppers, you can drag brakes down the whole thing without drama. Maestro’s active pedalling platform means you can pump the rollers on the way back up without losing energy.
Kijabe and Kereita Forest
Technical singletrack, roots, off-camber sections, and drops. This is where a hardtail becomes a liability and a Trance becomes a weapon. The Trance X variants with 150mm forks handle Kijabe’s steeper chutes better; the standard Trance 29 2 is more versatile if you also pedal to the top rather than shuttle. Kereita’s newer flow lines are Trance heaven.
Kajiado all-day epics
Sixty to ninety kilometres of mixed terrain, sun, and dust. The Trance is heavier than an XC bike but the suspension pays dividends on the rough sections after hour four. Fit two bottles, run a hip pack, and the Trance 29 2 with SLX 1×12’s wide range will get you home. This is where the Trance out-punches XC bikes that leave you battered.
Kilimambogo and Sagana weekend runs
Kilimambogo’s fire roads and singletrack loops are Trance 29 3 territory all day. Sagana’s forest trails on the way to whitewater weekends are pure fun on any Trance in the range. Both are perfect places to break in a new bike before you tackle Kijabe.

Is the Giant Trance overkill for Karura Forest?
For Karura alone, yes, a Trance is more bike than you need. A Talon hardtail handles Karura beautifully at half the price. Buy a Trance when your riding includes Ngong, Kijabe, Kereita, or Kajiado where the extra travel and Maestro suspension genuinely earn their keep. Many of our Trance customers ride Karura on weekdays and their real terrain on weekends.
What is the difference between the Trance and the Trance X?
The Trance runs a 140mm fork with steeper geometry, better for mixed climbing and descending. The Trance X runs a 150mm fork with slacker geometry, longer reach, and is built to descend steep terrain faster. Rear travel is similar at 135mm. Choose Trance for all-round trail; choose Trance X if steep descents are your main reason for buying full-suspension.
Can I service the Fox suspension in Nairobi?
Yes. Fork lower-leg services and shock air-can services are done in-house at the Dar es Salaam Road workshop, typically same-day or next-day. Full damper rebuilds are sent to the authorised Fox service partner and take 7 to 10 working days. We stock the common seal kits and oil weights for the Fox 34, Fox 36, and Rhythm forks that come on the Trance range.
How does the Trance compare to CAMP full-suspension bikes?
CAMP SR full-suspension is genuinely solid at around KES 220,000 and we sell it happily to riders on tighter budgets. The Trance’s Maestro linkage is more refined, pedals better under power, and holds its resale value much better. If you plan to keep the bike five years or ride hard terrain weekly, the Trance is worth the extra money. If you ride weekends casually, the CAMP is enough bike.
Do you deliver the Trance outside Nairobi?
Yes. We offer same-day delivery countrywide (not free); the cost is quoted at checkout. Pay on delivery is available in Nairobi only, while upcountry orders need a KES 2,000 deposit before dispatch. The bike ships 90 percent assembled in a purpose-built box with final assembly instructions. For Iten, Naivasha, Nakuru, Kisumu, and Mombasa buyers, we recommend booking a video-call fit before dispatch.
Is the Trance Advanced Pro worth KES 585,000 over the Trance 29 2?
Only if you already know why. The carbon front triangle saves around 400 grams, Fox Factory suspension is measurably better than Rhythm, and XT shifting is crisper than SLX. For a rider doing 200 plus kilometres a week on real trails, yes. For a rider doing 50 kilometres a week in Karura and occasional Ngong runs, no; the Trance 29 2 will feel identical to you.
